Sixty-seven high school students from Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia took part in the 2005 Georgia Journalism Academy.

In its 20th year, the June 5-11 Academy allowed students to take a weeklong course in one core area and one elective of their choice. Core areas included news writing, feature writing, editorial writing, broadcasting, photography or graphic design. Electives included advertising, public relations, staff development and leadership, media law or a UGA/Grady orientation class.

Classes were taught by Grady College faculty and staff, industry professionals and visiting professors. Working as a team, Academy students produced The Idol Times, an eight-page newspaper written, designed and edited by the students, and a broadcast news show shot and produced by the broadcast students.
